Education System in India

In the current age of social media, we find an infinite number of memes everywhere. On one topic or another everyone can find something they can relate to, but memes on “education system” or “school” is something literally everyone can relate irrespective of their age, their gender or which school they went to.

We all can agree to the fact that at one point of time we hated the education system and wanted to change it. Sooner or latter we accepted it as is and gave up the thought of “making the world a better place “just like Michael Jackson’s song. But something we often forget to notice is the minute details of our education system which is in fact best in the world. It is ranked 92nd in the world, among 145 countries.  If we go back a bit and see the history, Education has been a part since the Vedic times, the term Guru has been around for long. In the earlier times Patshala used to be like a boarding schools students used to live with their Guru’s and learn till they attained maturity, for example Kautaliya Gurukul. After Independence when our education system was fully controlled as well as established by the British, our leaders took a lot of effort in creating the best education system for the generations to come. Looking at the books we will find that each book for every class are made in accordance to the cognitive capacity of that particular age group. A book for a 5-year-old has exactly the words, stories and math’s that a 5-year-old can handle. Rote learning that we sure do hate actually is the best part of our education system. Surprising right! It comes from the ancient time – Kanthastha. Rote learning stimulates our mind, soul and body. It improves our concentration and bursts stress and invokes inner sense.  When we look at college degrees, our system of having us study a certain group of subjects really help us  in making sure we excel in that degree. For example, the basics of medical, engineering, or arts subjects are taken up the 11th and 12th books themselves which in turns makes the concept more clear and easier for us in the long run. All those projects we did as kids is where our creative stimulus was activated, we not only learnt about the general topics or the parts of a plant or what the different lentils or clothes are, we had fun making them, agreed that it was a headache for the parents to find every single cloth mentioned in the book but pasting it in our scrape books was a fun activity in itself. With continuous analysis and understanding of theory concept, we learn for life. We were making memories that we still cherish. Presenting them in class was like going to an art show, seeing what different ideas have our friends come up with. Our country is a developing country and is taking its time in providing us the best of what it has. Let’s take our time to find the best parts of it instead of the flaws.
